Alpha Tau Omega’s Jump For Judes at Austin Peay Raises $100K in 5 years

Check out this video of Austin Peay’s ATO chapter and their “Jump For Judes” fundraiser. “Jump for Judes” is a jumping marathon complete with live music, food, inflatables, and many trampolines. The entire family can come out and participate in this event, and the money raised goes to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. According to this article, over the last 5 years, the chapter has raised over $100,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and they presented the hospital with a check for $20,000 earlier this semester. This is fraternity done right!

Alpha Tau Omega at Grand Valley Walks 160 Miles for Multiple Sclerosis

Congratulations to the men of ATO at Grand Valley State University! According to this article, over the past four years, they’ve raised over $100,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year the brotherhood pulled in $38,000. While it’s a painful journey and not all the brothers complete all 160 miles, it’s a reminder of what those affected by the disease deal with every day, and this event finds others on campus that want to get involved. Nicely done!

Alpha Tau Omega at Nevada, Reno Work With Vets

According to this article, so far, the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega at University of Nevada, Reno have raised $6,500 for Nevada Military Support Alliance. It’s a great cause to have a fundraiser for, but I especially liked the way they brought awareness on campus to the struggles of military personnel and veterans that perform their daily tasks in wheelchairs.

When the brothers of ATO spoke to the veterans, the veterans felt that the mental issues were much tougher to deal with than the physical issues. Mobility is one of those things that most people take for granted, and if the brothers of ATO had a tough time dealing with being in a wheelchair on campus, then the mental issues have to be extremely difficult for the veterans of our country. By putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, it certainly gives you a greater appreciation for what the veterans have gone through, and why it’s so important to thank a veteran for their service not only on Veteran’s Day, but every day.

Alpha Tau Omega at Iowa State Talking About Sexual Assault Intervention

We should be having more conversations like this on college campuses across North America. According to this article, every AROTC cadet goes through a two day training course called MVP training that walks them through various scenarios to be proactive in preventing sexual assaults. They are using the leaders are campus to educate and then train other students. It’s really a perfect match, which is why I believe that Fraternities and Sororities are the best people on campus to effectively reach the student body and set the right expectations for a safe community. I’m glad to see Alpha Tau Omega at Iowa State getting involved in this important issue for all Universities.

Alpha Tau Omega helps with Sexual Assault Prevention on campus

Alpha Tau Omega at University of New Mexico had a really interesting display on campus that brought more awareness to the issue of Sexual Assault on college campuses. They arranged more than 3,000 cups on campus to visually show how many students on campus who will experience Sexual Assault in their lifetime. Red cups signified women, and the blue cups signified men. Also, they used red solo cups to bring the connection that in 90 percent of these cases, alcohol is involved.

If you watch this video in the news story, you’ll see that Alpha Tau Omega also did a great job in making their awareness campaign go viral by using hash tags in their event and a way to photograph participants in such a way that it’s easy to share on social media sites like Facebook and Instragram.

Think about how you can build a peer to peer awareness campaign on your campus, so that the Greeks are the ones educating the rest of the campus community on either consent or bystander intervention. Better yet, bring me in to have a conversation about definitions, consent on a college campus, and steps for bystander intervention with your campus community today! I’d love to share more ideas that have worked to start the conversation on college campuses across North America and help make a difference.
