Rana Walker: How to Use The FIB Method

Rana Walker is a professional mental health therapist and wellness coach. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Howard University and later obtained Master’s degree of Education in Counseling Psychology from Temple University. She starred as one of two original life coaches on Season 1 of NBC’s groundbreaking program, “Starting Over,” which aired daily and won an Emmy for her role. She has co-produced television programs since 2001, and renewed her love for writing, as evidenced in her column “Self Love…Mind, Body, Spirit”. Rana has translated her zest for life into her life’s passion—helping others to reveal who they are in truth.

In episode 676 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out more about her journey that she called “wandering in the wilderness and finding your way home”, what she meant by “thoughts are things”, how to reset if a fraternity or sorority member feels overwhelmed or anxious, how mindfulness can fit into a busy student’s life without feeling like another obligation, how Black and Latin sororities/fraternities approach wellness and identity, how chapters can better support members who are silently struggling with mental health, how students can use the FIB (focus, imagine, become) Method, how students can make better decisions in environments where there’s pressure, how travel shaped her understanding of identity and wellness, and more about her new TV show that she’s developing that was inspired by her journey. Jeff Harry: How can college students remedy burnout through play?

[podcast src=”https://html5-player.libsyn.com/embed/episode/id/24138972/height/90/theme/custom/thumbnail/yes/direction/forward/render-playlist/no/custom-color/191970/” height=”90″ width=”100%” placement=”top” theme=”custom”]Jeff Harry shows individuals and companies how to tap into their true selves, to feel their happiest and most fulfilled — all by playing. Jeff has worked with Google, Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, Adobe, the NFL, Amazon and Facebook, helping their staff to infuse more play into the day-to-day. Jeff is an international speaker who has presented at conferences such as INBOUND, SXSW, and Australia’s Pausefest, showing audiences how major issues in the workplace can be solved using play. His playwork has been featured in the New York Times, AJ+, SoulPancake, the SF Chronicle, and CNN. While we spend most of our time pretending to be important, serious grownups, it’s when we let go of that facade and just play, that the real magic happens. Fully embracing your own nerdy genius — whatever that is — gives you the power to make a difference and change lives. Jeff believes that we already have many of the answers we seek, and by simply unleashing our inner child, we can find our purpose and, in turn, help to create a better world.

In episode 292 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Jeff chose Tufts University for his undergraduate experience, what was the mission at Play-Well Teknologies and what made them so successful, how college students can remedy burnout through play, the best way to have a difficult conversation with people in your organization, how asking one question can change your entire day, how we can get unstuck if we are at a crossroads, what we can learn in the “Dudes, Do Better: Dismantling Toxic Masculinity” workshop, how we can have conversations with people we are opposed to politically, and how we can help “Deconstruct The BS of Office Politics”.
